The Artist Communities Alliance (ACA) manages and distributes the Mount Tremper Legacy Fund. This fund serves to support artistic residencies at established residency sites in New York’s Hudson Valley and Catskills region. These awards support artistic residencies for performing artists with no restrictions on where the artist is normally based, and with no restriction on their art or practice. The artistic residencies may be for the benefit of any stage of the artistic process, including research, experimentation, rehearsal, tech, performance, and demonstration.
The goals of this program are to support performing artists attending their first residency and/or who would otherwise be unable to participate in a residency, and to use the Legacy Fund to support a wide range of residencies throughout the Hudson Valley and Catskills region.
Every two years, ACA will open an application to select two residency sites to support performing artists. Residency sites will apply for one of two possibilities:
- a performing artist already selected through their standard application and/or nomination process, with a tentative timeframe of when the performing artist will be in residence in the next calendar year (i.e. for the 2026 application, artist should be in residence by the end of 2027)
- a performing artist they would like to invite specifically to their residency but who is not yet slated to attend. This residency can take place within the next two calendar years (i.e. for the 2026 application, artist should be in residence by the end of 2028)
Eligible applicants are well-established residency sites that are ACA Network members in good standing that fall within the geographic scope of the program and that support performing artists. Each applicant will be eligible to receive funds up to two times over the 10-year duration of this wind-down fund. Artist funding through this program will be additional funding on top of whatever the residency site provides to all of its artists, and the residency site will be responsible for distributing the program funds to the artist in a timely manner.
The funding amounts for each year are as follows:
- Artist Stipend (unrestricted) - $3K
- Artist Travel (unrestricted) - $2k
- Residency Host Fee - $10k
- Limited additional contingency funds available
